A news desk for marketing technology

The Martech Desk opens with a simple brief: report what happened, who it affects, and what we could verify.

Marketing technology produces a lot of news and not much reporting. Launch posts, pricing pages that change overnight, acquisitions announced in a paragraph, outages described as "degraded performance". The Martech Desk exists to write those stories the way a newsroom would.

The beat

Product launches and the features that actually shipped. Pricing changes, with the old price and the new one side by side. Acquisitions and what they mean for the customers of the company being bought. Outages and their post-mortems. And the AI features arriving in every tool on a marketer's screen, which we cover with the same question we ask of any feature: what does it do, and does it do it.

The method

Each story says what happened, who it affects, what the company said and what we could verify ourselves. When a company declines to answer, the story says so. When a claim is only the company's claim, it is attributed to the company, not stated as fact.

We date every story, and when we update one we say what changed and when.

Who we are

The Martech Desk is written by its desk and published by Good Standing Media, which runs a group of publications about software, marketing technology and AI search. When a story concerns a company the publisher has a stake in, the story says so at the top.
