For a small team answering Instagram DMs from a computer, BetterSocials is our pick. It's best for small teams that want drafts in their own voice, with one inbox for DMs and comments and a Team plan at $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 12 social accounts and unlimited teammates. Meta Business Suite is the free route for teams that only need Instagram and Facebook, and Sprout Social fits larger brands with a per-seat budget.

What a shared Instagram inbox costs a team in 2026

BetterSocials, Meta Business Suite and seven other tools all handle Instagram DMs from a computer, and price is where they split. We sorted this field by what a team pays, because the bill depends on how each vendor counts people. A shared inbox is one desktop view of every DM that several people can answer without sharing the Instagram password.

Speed matters as much as price. Instagram only lets a business reply to a DM within 24 hours of the person's last message, and after that the conversation stays closed until they write again. Meta's private replies documentation applies the same 24-hour messaging window to conversations that start from a comment.

The price bands run from free with Meta Business Suite, through entry plans under $50 a month at Later and Manychat, to about $100 a month at BetterSocials Team, Vista Social and Hootsuite. Sprout Social sits at $199 a seat, as of October 2026. On per-seat pricing, each person who answers adds the full price again.

How we picked these nine

BetterSocials and the eight other tools here each handle Instagram DMs from a computer. Every price below carries the month it was checked, between July and October 2026, monthly or yearly as each vendor lists it. We also kept the limits each vendor states in plain terms, from the platforms an inbox covers to how its automations send.

The order is by fit for a small team, with our pick first. The comparison table near the end lines the prices up side by side, with a worked sum for five people.

BetterSocials: best for small teams that want drafts in their own voice

BetterSocials puts Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs in one inbox, next to comments from those three plus YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages. The inbox has views for Needs reply and Replied, with tags, leads and an archive. Every new message gets a tag when it arrives, and a lead (someone asking about price, booking or availability) sends a push notification to the owner's phone.

The AI settings sit in Settings, then AI voice. Draft for me writes a reply in the owner's voice for each new DM and sends nothing until someone approves it. Reply in my voice answers a DM about a minute after it arrives.

AI rules are plain sentences the owner writes, such as opening hours or a booking link. When those rules don't cover a question, the DM waits in Needs reply for a person. After five AI replies in one conversation in a day, the rest wait too.

Instagram story replies, voice messages, photos and shared reels land in the inbox as DMs with a plain line such as "Replied to your story". That keeps them in front of whoever is on shift.

The team part sits on one plan. Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 4 accounts, and Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for 6 accounts. Both are one login. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 12 accounts, unlimited teammates invited from Settings, then Team, and 4,000 shared AI credits a month. Every plan has unlimited contacts and a 7-day free trial with a card required.

Meta Business Suite: best for teams on Instagram and Facebook that want free

Meta Business Suite is free, runs in a desktop browser and handles assignment out of the box. Meta's help center says "You can assign conversations in Inbox to different people who help manage your business's communication on Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp" (Meta's guide to assigning conversations). Each person needs Facebook access to the Page or task access to Messages.

Adding people takes an admin. Meta says "Only people with full control of a business portfolio can add people," and partial access covers jobs such as responding to messages. Temporary access lasts between 3 and 75 days.

The limit is the writing. Meta Business Suite's keyword automations send templates you write, or hand off to Meta Business Agent, are set up on desktop and wait 15 minutes before sending unless you reply first. They cover Meta's own apps, so YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads stay outside.

respond.io: best for support teams working DMs in shifts

respond.io is a customer messaging platform built for support teams, and its Instagram integration connects Instagram DMs to it. Pick respond.io when DMs are a support line your team works in shifts. Pick a social tool such as BetterSocials when the same people also answer comments and plan posts.

Sprout Social: best for larger brands with a full social team

Sprout Social puts its inbox on Standard at $199 per seat a month, billed annually, as of October 2026. Five people answering DMs at that rate cost close to a thousand dollars a month. That price buys Sprout Social's wider suite, which a larger brand with a dedicated social team may already run. Our Sprout Social pricing breakdown sets a seat against what the same team pays elsewhere.

Hootsuite: best for teams already scheduling in Hootsuite

Hootsuite includes its inbox from Standard at $99 per user a month, billed annually, as of October 2026. Five users come to just under five hundred dollars a month. A team that also answers YouTube comments can bring them into one inbox with BetterSocials, next to Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. For a team whose posts already run through Hootsuite, keeping replies in the same login is the simplest move.

Agorapulse: best for agencies that want one inbox on every tier

Agorapulse has one combined inbox on every tier at $79 per user a month on annual billing, as of July 2026. Five users come to just under four hundred dollars a month. Email isn't in its channel list. For one person, Agorapulse matches BetterSocials Team at $79 billed yearly. From the second user on, BetterSocials Team costs less, because its price stays the same as the team grows.

Vista Social: best for teams that want two users included

Vista Social Professional is $99 a month, or $80 billed yearly, with two users, as of October 2026. It includes a social inbox and DM automations from that plan, and it offers a 14-day trial without a card. For a pair answering DMs, Vista Social and BetterSocials Team land within a dollar of each other on yearly billing, $80 against $79. BetterSocials Team keeps that price for a third or a tenth teammate.

Manychat: best for keyword comment-to-DM funnels

Manychat works on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and TikTok, and it's built around keyword comment-to-DM funnels. Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, billed monthly, as of October 2026. Each extra contact costs $0.05 on Pro, so an account that reaches 4,000 people in a month pays well over a hundred dollars.

For one person with a small audience, Manychat Pro is cheaper than BetterSocials Team. What the extra money buys at BetterSocials is a flat bill with unlimited contacts, keyword comment-to-DM on Instagram and Facebook without a flow builder, and drafts in the owner's voice.

Later: best for teams that mostly plan posts

Later's Conversations inbox starts on Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly, or $50 a month, as of October 2026. It covers Instagram DMs and comments, Facebook DMs and comments and TikTok comments. Later has no YouTube or LinkedIn conversations. For a team whose day is mostly the content calendar, Later keeps DMs one tab away from the plan.

How the prices compare

Meta Business Suite is the cheapest by a wide margin. What BetterSocials Team adds for $99 a month is drafts in the owner's voice, with TikTok and YouTube in the same inbox.

FAQ

What is the best tool for a team to answer Instagram DMs from a computer?

BetterSocials is our pick for small teams, with one inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs and comments and drafts in the owner's voice. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 12 accounts and unlimited teammates. Meta Business Suite is the free option, and Sprout Social fits larger brands.

Can I answer Instagram DMs from my computer for free?

Yes. Meta Business Suite lets you read and reply to Instagram and Facebook messages from a desktop at no charge. Its automations send fixed templates you write, and its coverage stops at Meta's own apps, so YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads stay outside.

Can I assign Instagram DMs to different people on my team?

Yes. In Meta Business Suite you can assign conversations in Inbox to people who help manage your messages on Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. They need Facebook access to the Page or task access to Messages, and only someone with full control of the business portfolio can invite them.

How long does a team have to reply to an Instagram DM?

Instagram only lets a business reply to a DM within 24 hours of the person's last message. After that, BetterSocials and most other tools can't send a reply until the person writes again, though you can still answer in the Instagram app. A shared inbox that puts waiting DMs in front of whoever is free helps a team stay inside that window.

Can AI answer Instagram DMs for my team?

Yes. In BetterSocials, Draft for me writes a reply in the owner's voice for each new DM and waits for approval. Reply in my voice answers about a minute after a DM arrives. When the AI rules don't cover the question, the DM waits for a person in Needs reply.

How much does a shared Instagram inbox cost for five people?

On Sprout Social Standard, five seats at $199 come to close to a thousand dollars a month, billed annually. On Hootsuite Standard, five users at $99 come to just under five hundred a month, and on Agorapulse, five users at $79 come to just under four hundred, both on annual billing. BetterSocials Team is $99 a month for 12 accounts and unlimited teammates.
